I was a research scientist in the fields of Developmental Genetics and Cell Biology for 25 years.  I received my PhD from the University of Chicago.  I then completed post-doctoral studies at Harvard Medical School before becoming a professor of Pathology, Developmental Biology, and Molecular and Human Genetics at the Baylor College of Medicine.  Throughout this time I was not satisfied with basic science and medical models of mental functioning, especially the over-dependence on animal models and machine metaphors and the over-reliance on pharmaceuticals by the medical profession.

In my quest to find more natural and human means for alleviating mental and physical suffering, I sought guidance from diverse fields including Quantum Mechanics, Depth Psychology, Eastern Spirituality, Philosophy, Mythology, Yoga, and the Arts.  My purpose is to help bridge the divide between these diverse areas of human knowledge for the purpose of health, healing, and creating a more ensouled and connected life.  To these ends I founded Universal Self.  I am presently working on my dissertation in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute and I am certified teacher of Kundalini Yoga.  I am available for personal consultation, seminars, and workshops.  To contact me, click here.
